Titile : PhD position in otptical characterisation of quantum dots
Description : The Photonic Device Dynamics research group at the Tyndall National Institute in Cork, Ireland, invites applications for a PhD position in optical characterisation of novel semiconductor nano-structured materials such as Ga(As)Sb/GaAs or In(Sb)As/GaAs quantum dots. The successful candidate will work with state-of-the-art equipment to characterise new quantum dot materials grown by our collaborators. In particular, the candidate will perform a wide range of experiments including photo-luminescence, transmission and reflection spectroscopy, and time-resolved photo-luminescence to gain further understanding of the inter-band and inter-sub-band properties of these materials. To achieve this goal, the candidate will work with experienced researchers collaborating with growers and electronic band structure theorists. S/he will have the opportunity of working in state-of-the-art laboratories equipped with femtosecond lasers, streak camera, liquid Helium cryostat, THz FTIR and a suite of optical and radio-frequency characterisation equipment. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity of analysing the physics of amplifiers and lasers as the project progresses. To apply for this position, please send a brief motivation letter and a CV by email to Dr Guillaume Huyet: guillaume.huyet@tyndall.ie
