PhD Position in Theoretical Chemistry

October 10, 2008

The research within the Theoretical Chemistry group focuses on two research lines. One subgroup studies localized excitations in extended systems using cluster models and quantum chemical wave function methods. A second subgroup focuses on quantum chemical methods to describe relativistic effects in molecules and aims to describe strongly correlated systems using density-functional theory.

Project: Correlated wavefunctions for crystals.
A PhD position is available for developing, implementing and applying a new quantum chemical approach to obtain many-electron bands for extended systems with strong electron correlation effects. The method will account for many-electron effects as well as inter-site interactions in a rigorous manner. Preliminary work has already demonstrated its strength. The project will be carried out with the aid of an NWO-ECHO project grant.
