PhD position on wood-fibre based biocompositesThe Laboratory of Composites and Polymer Technology (http://ltc.epfl.ch) is active on processing the next generation sustainable materials such as composites based on renewable resources.
A position is open for completing a PhD degree on the topic:
Nanostructured cellular composites based on renewable resources.
LTC is part of a large European consortium that aims at the development of a series of completely new wood-based sustainable foam composite materials. Applications are in the fields of packaging, insulation, display and core materials. This PhD thesis will be done within the framework of this EU project, which is a large scale collaborative project between universities (3), research institutes (5) and companies (8), and includes production of cellulosic fibres, compounding, foaming and moulding ecodesigned products. Activities in this PhD project range from foaming fundamentals, the use of commingled composite preforms, definition of process windows for continuous processing to understanding the interaction between process and material structure and properties.
