The University of Oslo is the oldest, largest and most prestigious university in Norway, located in the Norwegian capital of Oslo. UiO attracts students and researchers from all over the world.

Applicants must hold a Master’s degree or equivalent in biomedical engineering, biochemistry, or similar within the Natural Sciences and must have some experience with characterization methods for cells or biomaterials. Good command of English is required for all students attending the University of Oslo. International students; Ph.D. research fellows and post-doctoral research fellows who are not native speakers of English, must document their proficiency in English by taking one of the following internationally recognized tests.

Course Level: Fellowship is available for the Ph.D. program at the University of Oslo.

Number of Awards: One position is available.

Scholarship Award: Position code 1017, Salary: NOK  432 700 – 489 300 per year (pay grade 50 – 57), depending on qualifications and seniority. The researcher fellow will be employed and receive according to payment as an ordinary salary from UiO based on the general conditions stated in the Employment Agreement. The salary includes all monthly amounts provided by the Research Executive Agency as specified in the Grant Agreement, comprising of Living Allowance, Mobility Allowance, and if applicable, Family Allowance.

Eligibility

 The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences has a strategic ambition of being a leading research faculty. Candidates for these fellowships will be selected in accordance with this, and expected to be in the upper segment of their class with respect to academic credentials.

Applicants must hold a Master’s degree or equivalent in biomedical engineering, biochemistry, or similar within the Natural Sciences and must have some experience with characterization methods for cells or biomaterials.

The applicant should also preferably have the following qualifications:

  • Experience with cell culture, especially (as an advantage) – the cultivation of human-induced pluripotent stem cells and differentiation of neuronal cells
  • Experience with an electrical characterization of cells or other biomaterials (impedance spectroscopy and action potential recording)
  • Experience with the design of microelectrode systems for bioimpedance measurements
  • Molecular biological analysis methods, such as immunocytochemistry, qPCR, Western Blot

The purpose of the fellowship is research training leading to the successful completion of a Ph.D. degree.

The fellowship requires admission to the Ph.D. program at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. The application to the Ph.D. program must be submitted to the department no later than two months after taking up the position.

MSCA   Early Stage Researcher requirement:

The Research Fellow must at the time of recruitment by the host, be in the first four years (full-time equivalent) of their research careers. This is measured from the date when they obtained the degree which formally entitles them to embark on a doctorate, either in the country in which the degree was obtained or in the country in which the research training is provided, irrespective of whether or not a doctorate was envisaged.

MSCA mobility requirement:

The Research Fellow is required to undertake trans-national mobility (i.e. move from one country to another) when taking up the appointment. At the time of selection by the host organization, researchers must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the country of their host organization for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to their recruitment. Compulsory national service and/or short stays such as holidays are not taken into account.

  • TOEFL – Test of English as a Foreign Language
  • IELTS – International English Language Testing Service
  • Certificate in Advanced English (CAE) and Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE) from the University of Cambridge
  • Applicants to the program for the Ph.D. degree in Science must obtain a minimum score of 550 (paper-based) or 213 (computer-based) or 80 (internet-based) on the TOEFL test or a minimum score of 6.5 on the IELTS (academic) test. The same applies to applicants for postdoctoral research fellow positions.
