The HafenCity University Hamburg (HCU) was founded in January 2006 by the Free and Han-seatic City of Hamburg to achieve excellence in teaching and research. It consists of the four sections of Architecture, Civil Engineering, Geomatics and Urban Planning. To work at HafenCity University means to contribute to the construction of an internationally outstanding university re-garding the development and the quality of our built environment.

For the earliest possible date the HCU is looking for a
Researcher / Lecturer (PhD position)
Salary scale 13 TV-L (part-time 50%)
(“Entgeltgruppe” 13 TV-L)

The position is located within the Institute of Urban, Regional and Environmental Planning, it is limited till December 31st 2011.

The position deals with aspects of sustainable regional development, particularly with metropoli-tan regions in Europe and on the international scale. Competences are essential in one of the following categories:
-
visions for sustainable metropolitan areas (“Metropolitan Design”): which visions, con-
cepts, or experiments are possible for a sustainable development?
-
climate protection and spatial development: climate change is generating new chal-
lenges in metropolitan regions. Which new concepts and instruments are possible to cope with it?

This profile is strongly connected with current research projects of the Institute of Urban, Regional and Environmental Planning. Together with the HCU’s research centers there is an intensive in-terdisciplinary exchange. Furthermore the HCU PhD School offers an inspiring frame for working on the doctoral thesis.

The position includes a teaching capacity of two hours per semester (cred. h.).

What we expect from you:

Superior completion of Diploma- or Master-Studies in urban, regional or spatial plan-ning or comparable qualification.

Excellent knowledge in international urban and regional development and on strate-gies of sustainable urban and regional development.
-
Experiences in research and acquiring external funded research projects.
-
Skills in working in teams and in independent and conceptual work.
-
Skills in communication.
-
Competencies in popular computing (Word, Excel etc.).
-
Good knowledge of English is essential, further foreign languages are advantageous.

The HCU is keen to increase the quota of women. Against this background particularly women are called to make an application for this position. In case of the same aptitude, competence and knowledge women are included preferential. Also, the application of severely disabled and equated is desired in terms of German social law (Sozialgesetzbuch Neuntes Buch, SGB IX).
