PhD Scholarship and Postdoctoral Position Technical University of Denmark

June 4, 2008

PhD scholarship and Postdoctoral position in Fiber-optical microphones/accelerometers

A 3 year PhD scholarship and a 3 year Postdoctoral position are available at the Department of Photonics Engineering from September 1, 2008.

Both projects are mostly experimental in nature and involve the design and drawing of advanced microstructured polymer optical fibers (mPOFs) for the development of novel fiber-optical microphone and accelerometer systems. This is achieved through the writing of Bragg gratings into the fibers, which therefore must be optimized for this purpose. As part of the projects the candidates will participate in establishing a new experimental facility for grating writing at the Department of Photonics Engineering. The projects are part of a DKK 25 million project supported by the Danish National Advanced Technology Foundation and involving major companies, such as Brüel & Kjær Sound & Vibration Measurements A/S, Ibsen Photonics A/S, and DPA Microphones A/S. The candidates will join the consortium as active members and therefore see their advanced mPOFs being used as key elements in the development of complete sound and vibration measurement systems in collaboration with the involved companies.
