The National Centre for Adult Stem Cell Research
The National Centre for Adult Stem Cell Research (NCASCR) was established in 2006 with funding from the Australian Government. The Centre is integrated within the Eskitis Institute for Cell and Molecular Therapies, drawing on expertise across the disciplines from cell biology to drug discovery. Our research is focused on applications of adult neural stem cell biology in cell therapy, in understanding brain disorders and diseases, and in drug therapy and development. The research draws together the disciplines of neurobiology, systems biology, and bioinformatics and applies these to specific diseases including; Parkinson’s disease, schizophrenia, and motor neuron disease and includes a clinical trial in spinal cord injury.
We are currently seeking applications from prospective PhD, MPhil and Honours students who are interested in contributing to the NCASCR. The NCASCR will be offering PhD scholarships of $25,118 per year, which is a tax free stipend for a period of three years full time study, together with relocation and thesis allowances. PhD applicants should hold a Bachelors (Honours class I or IIa) in biomedical, behavioural or other relevant disciplines. MPhil scholarships of $7,000 and Honours scholarships of $3,000 per year will be offered to students currently enrolled in these programs at Griffith University for 2008.
To be eligible for these scholarships you must be an Australian or New Zealand citizen or an Australian permanent resident.
