PhD scholarship in Biophotonics – Frequency-swept laser light source for optical coherence tomography
DTU Fotonik, Department of Photonics Engineering has an open 3 year PhD scholarship in the field of Biophotonics.
Ansøgningsfrist: 22.09.2008

DTU Fotonik, Department of Photonics Engineering has an open PhD scholarship in the field of Biophotonics. The candidate will take part in a research effort on developing novel schemes for rapidly frequency-swept laser source for optical coherence tomography (OCT). The lasers should be incorporated into so-called swept-source OCT systems for ophthalmic applications. This project is part of a new FP7 EU-project entitled FUN OCT. The aim of FUN OCT is to expand the non-invasive optical biopsy capability of OCT by functional extensions thereby enabling ‘morphofunctional’ performance, i.e., the fusion of anatomic and functional imaging at the cellular resolution level.

Qualifications
Applicants should have a MSc degree in Optics, Physics, Biomedical Engineering or a related field with documented experimental experience as well as good interpersonal and communication skills. A background in experimental optics, laser development and characterization, semiconductor optical amplifiers, and fibre optics is required, and knowledge of optical coherence tomography systems will be preferable.

Terms of employment
The scholarship for the PhD degree is subject to academic approval, and the successful candidate will be enrolled as PhD student at the Technical University of Denmark. Information about the general requirements for enrolment and the general planning of the scholarship studies is included in the general rules of DTU, which may be obtained from the PhD programme office at tel: +45 4525 1176 or +45 4525 1177 or from the homepage of DTU: www.dtu.dk.

The salary and appointment terms are consistent with the current rules for PhD degree students. At the moment, the annual salary of a PhD student is approximately 277,000 DKK (36,900 EUR) and pension scheme.
