PhD scholarship in the field of Pedestrian-Induced Vibrations of Bridges and Floors

Applicants are invited for a 3-year PhD scholarship at the Department of Civil Engineering.

The successful candidate will be employed at DTU Civil Engineering: http://www.byg.dtu.dk and affiliated to the International Research School in Civil Engineering, IRS@BYG: http://www.dtu.dk/centre/IRS.aspx

Description of the project
The aim of the PhD project is to understand Pedestrian-Induced Vibrations of Bridges and Floors. Research in loading of structures at the Department of Civil Engineering has as objectives the further understanding of various forms of structural loading (including their codification), which will mainly be dynamic or pseudo-dynamic in nature, their effects and the development of new structural control schemes. The load effects will be examined based on existing serviceability and limit states following performance based design principles or using existing structural data (both theoretical and experimental), with a concentrated effort around the understanding of load-structure interaction, its codification and the human and economic impact of limit state exceedances.
