Eligibility:
Candidates must have a master’s degree in engineering or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to the master’s degree in engineering.
- Furthermore, you are expected to have a strong background in one or several of the following areas:
-Composite materials
- Mechanical testing
- Failure, fatigue and fracture mechanics
- Finite element method
-Structural dynamics
-Probabilistic design methods

Scholarship Description: The PhD project is part of the new Danish Centre for Composite Structures and Materials for Wind Turbines (DCCSM), grant no. 09-067212 from the Danish Strategic Research Council. The centre has participants from the best research groups in Denmark on composite structures and materials and some of the leading companies within the wind power industry. The PhD position is a unique possibility to be part of this strong research environment. The PhD scholarship concerns multi axial loading of thick composite laminates. Wind turbine blades experience complex loading and it is important to be able to predict when and how they fail in order to safe material and optimize the structure. The purpose of the project is to investigate how multi axial loading effects influence the ultimate strength of typical composite structures in wind turbine blades and to develop methods to perform reliable prediction of failure
