Vacant PhD Position in Uppsala
A position for 3 years as a PhD-student in Nutrition/biomedicine with special focus on dietary fatty acids and inflammation in the metabolic syndrome is vacant at The Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism Unit, Department of Public Health and Caring Sciences, Uppsala University, Sweden.
As part of the Nordic Centre of Excellence Programme on Food, Nutrition and Health, co-financed by NordForsk and the National Research Councils, the Department of Public Health and Caring Sciences, Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism, has obtained funding for the 5-year Nordic Centre of Excellence: Systems biology in controlled dietary interventions and cohort studies – SYSDIET, Project number 070014. The University of Kuopio, Department of Clinical Nutrition and Food and Health Research Centre will be the coordinating center of the 11 Nordic co-operating partners; www.nordforsk.org
Job description
The tasks will include:
- Data collection, management and statistical analyses in population-based epidemiological studies
- Laboratory research on pro/anti-inflammatory effects of fatty acids collected in controlled interventions with special reference to insulin resistance
- Learning and implementing new techniques within “nutrigenomics”
- Reporting
- Dissemination of results within SYSDIET, in other scientific settings as well as towards the public
Close collaboration forming a virtual centre of joint objectives between the 11 Nordic complementary research groups will involve some travel activity between the centers.
Qualification requirements
The candidate should be qualified in biomedicine, epidemiology and medical statistics, preferably with special knowledge in fatty acid metabolism. Experience in nutrition and cardiovascular epidemiology is required, and an interest and knowledge in obesity related diseases, e.g. the metabolic syndrome. Additionally, the candidate must be motivated for collaboration, appreciate team work, and wish to become part of a very dynamic research team. Priority is given to applicants with a masters degree in biomedicine with some research experience in inflammation and nutrition, especially fatty acids. Applicants from all the Nordic countries are encouraged to apply.
