PhD Scholarships in Public Health Science

The Danish Graduate School in Public Health Science, GRASPH, is pleased to announce that six PhD-scholarships will be awarded by 1st of July 2009 to encourage young science graduates to embark on a research career in public health science. The PhD Scholarships are co-financed between The Danish Agency for Science, Technology and Innovation, the Faculties of Health Sciences (Universities of Copenhagen, Southern Denmark and Aarhus) and specific institutions in GRASPH.
Applications for 3-year scholarships are invited from candidates with a relevant master´s degree to one of the projects announced on our web site, www.phdpubhealth.dk. It is recommended to make contact with the main supervisor or contact person of the relevant research project before applying. Whether or not your degree equivalates a degree of the relevant academic level, you should obtain an evaluation by Cirius before applying for admission as a PhD student (http://www.ciriusonline.dk/Default.aspx?ID=3771).
Applicants who are already enroled or in the process of enrolment as PhD students by March 2009 cannot apply. Following allocation of the scholarships enrolment must take place at one of the Faculties of Health Sciences at either University of Copenhagen, Aarhus or Southern Denmark.
Appointment will take place at the institution where the PhD project is to be carried out. The terms of employment are stated in the agreement between The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations and the Ministry of Finance. The position is 3-yearly and is carried in accordance with ´Aftale mellem AC og Finansministeriet om lønnede ph.d.-stipendiater´ (Agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC) on salaried scholarships). As scholarship holders are included in the agreements regarding ´Ny Løn? (new salary), the salary is set as a result of an individual salary negotiation. The scholarship holder is obligated – with no further salary – to carry out tasks in connexion with lectures etc. for up to 840 working hours in the duration of the 3 year employment.
The PhD programme is to be completed in accordance with the Ministerial Order on the PhD Course of Study and on the PhD Degree of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, and the regulations and guidelines defined by the respective universities.
How to apply
Applications must be delivered in 9 copies and as a pdf-file on a cd-rom. Applicants should fill in a special application form found on http://www.phdpubhealth.dk/stipendier/. The application (written in Danish or English) should include all the enclosures stated in the form.
Deadline for application is 16th of March, 2009 at 16:00. The application should be send to graduate school coordinator Lisbeth Lyng Hansen, Danish Graduate School in Public Health Science, Øster Farimagsgade 5, P.O. 2099, 1014 Copenhagen K.
The qualifications of the applicant will be assessed by an assessment committee in accordance with the Ministerial Order Regarding Appointments. On the basis of the recommandations of this committee the Dean of the relevant faculty will make a decision for allocating the scholarship.

The Danish Graduate School in Public Health is aimed to stimulate research and training of PhD students within public health sciences. GRASPH is based on a collaboration between 13 public and private research institutions which are:  Institute of Public Health, University of Copenhagen; Institute of Public Health, University of Southern Denmark; Institute of Public Health, University of Aarhus; National Research Center for the Working Environment; National Institute of Public Health; Statens Serum Institut; Research Centre for Prevention and Health, Capital Region; Institute of Preventive Medicine, Capital Region; DSI Danish Institute for Health Services Research; Research Unit of General Practice in Copenhagen; Research Unit of General Practice in Odense; Research Unit of General Practice in Aarhus; Institute of Epidemiological Cancer Research, Danish Cancer Society.
The Graduate School is funded for a 5-year period by The Danish Research Agency and The Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Copenhagen.
