PhD student at the Center for Systems Microbiology,Technical University of Denmark
Position available for a PhD student at the Center for Systems Microbiology (CSM) Department of Systems Biology, DTU, Denmark.
The project is aimed at improving our understanding of how antibiotic resistance develops in microbial communities, including the human microbiome, and how human genetic host factors influence microbiome composition and its antibiotic resistance profile. We will develop and apply cutting edge functional metagenomic techniques, next generation sequencing, single cell analysis and microfluidics to address these important questions.

The lab is studying the fundamental principles underlying microbial community structure and dynamics, with a focus on antibiotic resistance, the human microbiome and industrial biotechnology.
The position needs to be filled as soon as possible – at the latest 1 October 2010.
Qualifications
Candidates should have a master’s degree in engineering, biophysics, biochemistry, microbiology, molecular biology or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to the master’s degree.
A preferred applicant has an excellent academic track record, previous research experience and is highly motivated towards developing new technology and making scientific breakthroughs.
Salary and Appointment Terms
The salary and appointment terms are consistent with the current rules for PhD degree students. The period of employment is three years.
