PhD Student in Chemical Biology-Nanomedicine, Germany
The research group of Prof. V. Haucke at the Freie Universitaet Berlin, Institute of Chemistry & Biochemistry is seeking a
PhD student in chemical biology/ nanomedicine
starting 01 February 2009. Our laboratory is interested in the molecular mechanisms of vesicle-mediated membrane transport, in particular in the recognition of membrane receptors by endocytic adaptor proteins and the role of lipids and molecular motor proteins in this process [Mol. Cell 18, 519-31(2005); Dev. Cell 10, 233-244; Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA 103, 11934-939 (2006); EMBO Rep 8, 241-246 (2007); J Cell Biol, 179:1497-510 (2007); Proc Natl Acad Sci U S A 105:3616-21 (2008)] using a combination of biochemical, and cell biological approaches.
The aim of the project is to analyse the uptake and intracellular transport of defined fluorescent nanoparticles within living cells and to characterize their intracellular fates with regard to stability and targeting to intracellular organelles. Finally, the molecular pathways and components involved in this process shall be identified using state-of-the-art imaging technology paired with genetic, proteinaceous or chemical inhibitors. The position is supported by the German funding agency DFG/ Priority Program 1313.
Applicants should hold a Diploma or MSc degree in chemistry, biochemistry, or molecular biology. A good command of the english language is desirable. Candidates with experience in molecular cell biology and/ or protein biochemistry are especially encouraged to apply. Salary is in accordance with the BAT schedule.
