In a joint project at the University of Regensburg (Thomas Langmann, PhD), the Charité in Berlin (Klaus Rüther, MD) and the King´s College in London (Jon Cooper, PhD) financed by the National Contest for Life (NCL)-Foundation, a PhD Position is immediately available at the Institute of Human Genetics in Regensburg under the supervision of Thomas Langmann.
The aim of the project is to characterize the contribution of early neuroimmune responses in the development of Neuronal Ceroid Lipofuscinosis (NCL) within the retina by studying microglial activity.
Impaired vision is the leading symptom and a long-term problem in juvenile NCL. Therefore, targeted immune-related therapies blocking retinal microglia activation and possibly retinal degeneration could be helpful to preserve vision in JNCL patients.
