Ph.D. Student Position in Cancer Biology (Berlin)

November 12, 2008

A Ph.D. Graduate Student position in the field of “Cellular Senescence and Lymphoma Biology” are available in the laboratory of Prof. Dr. Clemens Schmitt at the Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin and the Max-Delbrück-Center for Molecular Medicine, in Berlin, Germany.

Our laboratory has a long-standing interest in exploring molecular mechanisms of oncogene- and therapy-induced cellular failsafe programs, namely apoptosis and cellular senescence. We particularly aim to exploit mechanisms of induction, function and fate of senescent cells during lymphoma development and lymphoma therapy in transgenic mouse models harbouring primary lymphomas with defined genetic lesions. The vacant positions are embedded in a newly funded research network interested in cellular plasticity, reprogramming, and cellular interactivity as oncogenic capabilities during lymphomagenesis.

We are looking for:
• a talented Ph.D. student with a strong interest in our scientific area and a good background of basic molecular research methodology. Lab communication is in English.

Key references related to our research:
• Oncogene-induced senescence acts as a tumor suppressive barrier in vivo (Braig et al., Nature 2005)
• Therapy-induced senescence is a critical component of treatment outcome (Schmitt et al., Cell, 2002)
• FoxO transcription factors suppress Myc-driven lymphomagenesis (Bouchard et al., Genes Dev., 2007)
