Scholarship Description: This project offers an excellent opportunity to learn and develop a novel fast-pyrolysis process for the production of biofuel and chemicals from lignocelulosic biomass (agricultural residues, empty fruit bunches, forest wastes, energy crops, and other organic waste streams). Fast-pyrolysis is a thermo-chemical conversion process which involves rapid heating and a short residence time of the feedstock in the reactor. This process yields a range of products depending on the processing conditions. The objective of the research is to produce liquid bio-oil followed by stabilization, upgrading and refining to produce a range of fuels and chemicals.
