PhD Student Position - Population Genetics

A PhD student position in Population Genetics / Genomics is available
at the University of Munich in the laboratory of Wolfgang Stephan.
The student will join a collaborative research group studying natural
selection in structured populations and be enrolled in the Munich
Graduate School for Evolution, Ecology and Sytematics (EES).

The specific project includes the detection of selection in the
genome of Drosophila melanogaster, the identification of genes
involved in adaptation, and the analysis of the associated
phenotypes. The project will use high-throughput DNA sequencing,
microarray studies, and QTL analysis.

The University of Munich has a strong, interactive group in
evolutionary biology, including theoreticians and experimentalists
working on both plant and animal systems. We have an international
group and the everyday working language is English. The Department of
Biology is housed in the new, state-of-the-art BioCenter on the
University of Munich High-Tech campus. More information is available

The PhD student will receive a salary according to the German pay
scale (E13/2 TV-L). Applicants should have a master’s degree or
equivalent in biology or a related field. In addition, laboratory
experience in molecular biology and/or genetics is desired.
