PhD student position in the field of gasification
Biomass /solid fuel thermal conversion using high-temperature agent (air/steam/oxygen).
The PhD student Position is available at the laboratory of Division of Energy and Furnace at Department of Materials Science and Engineering /MSE, School of Industrial Engineering and Management/ITM.
Activities at School Industrial Engineering and Management cover the engineering, technological and economic knowledge necessary to be able to develop new products, material and production processes in sustainable fashion as concerns technical management, financial profitability and the environment. One precondition for innovation and enterprise is the study and application of basic and physical and chemical phenomena as well as the integration of new, often multidisciplinary technologies, methods and tools. Core knowledge areas include energy technology, industrial design and innovation, product and production development, materials development, micro and nano technology as well as industrial economics, organisation and management.
The project, which is financed by the Swedish Energy Agency (STEM), Vetenskapsrådet(VR) and industries in Sweden, aim to understand the fundamental of biomass/solid fuel thermal conversion process, research and develop of High-temperature Agent (Air/steam/Oxygen) Gasification –HTAG technology, and prepare the technique for up-scaling to demoscale and in a longer perspective industrial application replacing propane and oil with renewable alternatives.
The project will involve semi-scale experiments in the laboratory at KTH. Mathematical model will be a complementary tool that will be used to gain more understanding for the HTAG processes.
Qualifications
We are looking for one student with a university master degree in mechanical engineering, chemical engineering or engineering physics.
