Scholarship Description: The research focuses on solutions for consumer products, consumer attitudes and the design of products and services, investigating their significance for a more sustainable society. To ensure a shift towards real sustainability, new solutions on both system and product level are necessary which are to be designed from a human centred perspective with consumer/user attitudes and behaviours in mind. Research on these aspects will be combined with the design of new product solutions in close cooperation with industry. The aim is to create a bridge between the areas of behavioural science and technological development with a starting point in design sciences. The research outcome will enhance the understanding of sustainable product development processes and strengthen the role and function of the design discipline, facilitate the assessment and evaluation of solutions, and enable the generation and optimisation of new results.
A PhD position is limited to maximum five years. Usually, a PhD student will spend about 80 per cent of this time on graduate studies (1/4 graduate courses and 3/4 thesis project work) and maximum 20 percent on undergraduate teaching and other departmental tasks.
You will be inscribed into the postgraduate programme and the research school Human-Technology-Design.
The successful applicant should typically have an MSc or an MFA degree in Industrial Design Engineering or Industrial Design or corresponding. Professional experience in research and/or development work in the domain of sustainable design is an additional advantage. The specific position requires an analytical ability as well as artistic talent, a high level of creativity and excellent computer skills. The applicant should furthermore be self-driven, open-minded and interested in pursuing innovative results. Verbal and visual presentation skills, teamwork and fluent English are necessary. Due to the character of the research work, the applicant should preferable also understand and speak Swedish.
