PhD Student Position on the topic ‘Unraveling the chemical interactions of viruses and host algae in plankton’
Description : The Graduate School of Excellence ‘JSMC’ invites applications for a
PhD Student Position (Ref.No. JSMC-44/2009) on the topic

Mass spectrometry based metabolic profiling / metabolomics to unravel the chemical interactions of viruses and host algae in plankton

The project will deal with the interactions of marine algal viruses and phytoplankton, thereby addressing the functioning of very important marine food webs and biogeochemical cycling. The underlying regulative processes will be investigated by applying a metabolomic investigation of phytoplankton cells. Bioassays in the lab will be accompanied by field studies to search for the role of the identified metabolites in algal / virus interactions.
