PhD Student Scholarships and Research/Teaching Assistantships in Computer Science
Description : The Department of Computer Science at The University of Texas at San Antonio invites applicants to the doctoral program in computer science for Spring/Fall 2010. Doctoral students participate in advanced course-work and work closely with a faculty advisor in original research leading to the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Computer Science. The department currently has 58 PhD students in the program and expects to increase the size to 75 over the next years.
Accepted students will be automatically considered for financial support through scholarships, teaching assistantships, and/or research assistantships. All of the department’s full-time PhD students are currently fully supported, and the department has sufficient funding to support many more students in the upcoming year. Support for a typical PhD student pays for the student’s tuition and fees and offers financial compensation of $18,000 or more per year (12 months).
Research Assistants will conduct innovative research in cooperation with and under the supervision of department faculty in the general research areas of Algorithms, Bioinformatics and Computational Biology, AI and Machine Learning, Computer and Information Security, Computer Architecture, Computer Networks, Computer Vision, Databases, High Performance Computing, Operating Systems, Human-Computer Interaction, Parallel and Distributed Systems, Programming Languages and Compilers, Software Engineering, Visualization.
Activities of research assistants include implementing prototype systems, developing and proving new theories, conducting experiments, attending international conferences, and publishing their results in scientific journals.
Teaching Assistants work under the supervision of department faculty in support of the teaching mission of the university. Activities of teaching assistants include teaching discussion sections and grading homework assignments.
