Job Description : Applications are invited from candidates who are interested in applying to study for a PhD in the Institute of Health & Welfare Research at the Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen, Scotland,UK. The Institute brings together interdisciplinary research within biomedical science, allied health care professions and social sciences. The PhD studentships are aligned with the strategic research themes of the institute; Cardiovascular & Metabolic Disease, Environmental &Occupational Health and Neurological & Mental Health.
This project combines engineering and life sciences with the aim of developing biological substitutes in theform of vascularised scaffolds with a 3D structure. Damage and/or loss of blood vessels occur within a variety of disease states including cardiovascular disease and diabetes. The ability to regenerate functional offers a therapeutic option in the form of prosthetic structures for use in regenerative medicine. This exciting project seeks to develop a strategy to enhance vascularisation within 3D scaffolds by integration of rapid prototyping, surface bioprocessing and co-culturemethods The project will be of interest to a student with a biomedical background and a keen interest in applied research. Application process
Candidates should be highly motivated with a strong commitment to academic research. A First Class, or a 2.1 Honours Degree (or equivalent) or a Masters Qualification in a relevant discipline isrequired. Relevant professional experience will also be considered. Each studentship provides full university fees for UK/EU applicants and a tax-free maintenance allowance of £13,590 per annum
