Scholarship for PhD Students at Institute of Environmental Sciences, Department of Biology and Earth Sciences, Jagiellonian University, Cracow, Poland

Job Description: Application are invited for the PhD Studentship
Maximum period of stipend agreement: 4 years
Position starts on: 1. 10. 2010
Stipend’s amount: For students taking advantage of voluntary pension insurance, 3500 PLN/month during stay in Poland, 5000 PLN/month during stay abroad, for others: 3000 and 4500 PLN, respectively
Pension insurance: voluntary
Key responsibilities include:
1. Accumulation of mutations and the robustness of genetic systems
2. Effect of pollution on genetic variation in natural populations
3. Monitoring of metal availability thresholds causing changes in insect larval community structure in metal-contaminated stream systems
4. Impact of industrial pollution (heavy metals) on stoichiometry of soil-litter food webs in forests
5. Role of anti-competitor toxins in the origin and maintenance of diversity in structured microbial populations
6. Relationship between the diversity of soil microbial communities and their resistance to different stressors
7. Metabolic performance and susceptibility to pollution in voles: an experimental evolution approach
Profile of candidates: 1. good command of english 2. MSc in areas reated to the project
