We are currently seeking applicants for a Doctoral Training Account (DTA/ PhD) studentship on the interface between experimental Condensed Matter Physics and Molecular biology.
The successful applicant will contribute to the development and application of an atomic force microscope for high-resolution imaging and manipulating of single atoms and (biological) molecules in liquid environment. Having achieved atomic-resolution imaging of liquid-solid interfaces, we now plan to enhance our experimental techniques to be able to distinguish different proteins in biological membranes and to study molecular motors in real time.
The research will be conducted in the London Centre for Nanotechnology (LCN), a new UK based multi-disciplinary enterprise operating at the forefront of science and technology.
Potential candidates are asked to check carefully their eligibility for an EPSRC DTA studentship before applying. The academic requirement is at least an upper second M.Sci. in Physics, Nanoscience or equivalent. All British citizens are eligible but other EU citizens are eligible only if they have resided in the UK for at least the last three years. Non-EU citizens are not eligible (unless they have indefinite leave to remain from the UK Home Office).
