Job Description: A 3 year PhD studentship is available for well-qualified candidates to develop new nanostructured catalysts for the clean chemical synthesis of biofuels within the Cardiff Catalysis Institute.
The research project will involve inorganic solid state materials synthesis, surface science and process engineering to deliver new nanotechnologies for the direct transesterification of plant and algal triglycerides into biodiesel.
Successful applicants will join an enthusiastic team working at the Chemistry-Chemical Engineering interface, gaining experience and training in advanced analytical tools including XPS, XAS, GC-MS and high-resolution TEM, and have the opportunity to travel to international synchrotron research centres during their studentships.
Candidates should have, or be about to receive a first or upper second class degree in chemistry or equivalent. The studentship offers full costs (fees plus stipend) for 3 years for EU citizens.
