PhD Studentship: Psychological Impact of Miscarriage Across the Life Span, UK
Job Description: Applications are invited from candidates who are interested in applying to study for a PhD in theInstitute of Health & Welfare Research at the Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen, Scotland,UK. The Institute brings together interdisciplinary research within biomedical science, alliedhealth care professions and social sciences. The PhD studentships are aligned with the strategicresearch themes of the institute; Cardiovascular & Metabolic Disease, Environmental &Occupational Health and Neurological & Mental Health.An exciting opportunity has arisen for a PhD studentship to contribute to a developing research programmededicated to enhancing the provision of care for women who experience miscarriage. The successfulcandidate will undertake research to investigate the moderating effects of locus of control and social support on the psychological impact of early pregnancy loss (anxiety, depression and grief) as a means of enhancing mental well-being. An interest in health psychology and/or midwifery and the application of psychologyand sociology to health and well-being is essential together with an enthusiasm for working in the clinicaldomain. Ideally, this project will suit applicants with a background in psychology, sociology, midwifery orrelated discipline. Application process
Candidates should be highly motivated with a strong commitment to academic research. A First Class, or a 2.1 Honours Degree (or equivalent) or a Masters Qualification in a relevant discipline isrequired. Relevant professional experience will also be considered. Each studentship provides full university fees for UK/EU applicants and a tax-free maintenance allowance of £13,590 per annum
for 3 years. The studentship is available to start in October 2010.
