PhD Studentship University College Dublin in Ireland
The PhD project is to develop a new method for studying the biophysical solvation of nanomaterials. Our previous research predicted a novel Raman breathing (SBM) mode which represents a new probe/sensor of solvation. Using experiment, simulation and theory in the new project we will a) detect for the first time the SBM b) make very accurate measurements of solvation shifts c) derive nanotube-solvent interaction potentials and d) try to characterise biophysical interactions using such shifts relevant to biophysics and nanotoxicology. This project would suit a student with a physics or chemistry background who is interested in biophysics and will be a mixture of experimental and theoretical research.
