PhD Studentship

Hierarchical Composite Structures for Extreme Damage Tolerance

Department of Aerospace Engineering

The Advanced Composites Centre for Innovation and Science (ACCIS) at the University of Bristol is currently seeking a PhD student to join a large team of researchers working on innovative and multifunctional polymer composite materials.

The fully funded 3 year PhD studentship is available in the field of advanced polymer composites and is supported by the Great Western Research Alliance and Rolls-Royce. This is an experiment-oriented study to consider the manufacture, development and application of advanced composites with extreme damage tolerance inspired by the hierarchy found in natural materials. The studentship will run in parallel to a partner project by Exeter University. State-of-the-art manufacturing facilities will be available to support the study. Regular interaction with Rolls-Royce will occur as part of their University Technology Centre in Advanced Composites located at Bristol.
