PhD Studentship:Investigating Primary Breakup Phenomena, University of Cranfield, UK
Job Description: Applications are invited for a PhD studentship in the Applied Mathematics and Computing Group in the Department of Process and Systems Engineering, School of Engineering, Cranfield University.
Multi-dimensional CFD is an established tool for understanding physical systems with fluid flow and combustion. In this context, the modelling of spray transport is reasonably well established. However, significant contributions may be made in the area of modelling primary break up by using DNS to give a fully resolved description of the interface dynamics and to develop models of the primary break-up mechanisms.
The project will investigate the mechanisms involved in primary break up of liquid films using direct numerical simulation.
Entry Requirements
Applicants should have a first or upper second class UK honours degree in engineering, physics , chemistry or similar discipline.
Funding
Full funding (stipend and fees) is available for suitable candidates.
* Funding : supported by EPSRC, this studentship will cover tuition fees at the UK/EU rate only and provide a bursary of up to £13,500p.a for three years dependent upon qualifications, experience and project. To be eligible for funding applicants must demonstrate a relevant connection with the UK, usually through being ordinarily resident for a period of 3 years immediately prior to the date of application for the award. However, nationals of other member states of the European Union are eligible for fees-only awards if they are resident in their own country in the same way that other candidates are required to be resident in the UK.
