Job Description: Applications are invited for a full-time studentship available in the school of Forensic & Investigative Sciences. The studentship is tenable for up to 3 years for a PhD (via MPhil route) [subject to satisfactory progress]. The studentship will cover the cost of tuition fees at UK/EU rates plus a stipend (£13,590 for 2010/11) per annum. International applicants may apply but will be required to pay the difference between UK/EU and international fees. The successful applicant will start on 1 October 2010
Project Description:
The School of Forensic and Investigative Sciences (TRACES: Taphonomic Research in Anthropology Centre for Experimental Studies) is offering a PhD studentship in forensic taphomomy and its junction with forensic entomology. Experimental research conducted by the successful candidate should take place at TRACES, UCLAN’s new dedicated decomposition research facility. The research project should compliment ongoing studies on the impact of maggot-generated heat and decomposition rate. The successful candidate will have previous research experience in a similar area. This individual should be independent, self-motivated, in possession of exceptional organisational and research skills, and able to communicate well in both spoken and written form.

Applicants should have, or expect to receive, a second class (upper division) BSc Honours degree or above and a MSc degree (or equivalent qualification) in a related discipline.
