PhD Studentships in Multi-modal Content-based Information Retrieval Available, Ireland

Applicants are invited for a number of Ph.D studentships available within Clarity: Centre for Sensor Web Technologies — www.clarity-centre.org. These studentships are in the area of content-based information retrieval for supporting novel ways to browse and search in video archives leveraging emerging media platforms (e.g. MS surface, iPhone, iPad, etc) and new social networking phenomena (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, etc).

Applicants should have a keen interest in one or more of the following areas: content-based information retrieval, multimedia analysis and understanding, HCI. Applicants would be expected to exhibit the appropriate software engineering skills, be able to express clearly their research in a written and spoken form and be ambitious and highly motivated.

Studentships would be in the form of a tax free scholarship for 3 years, of circa €15,700 for the first year, rising to circa €18,000 thereafter (upon successful transfer to the PhD register). University fees will also be paid.

Successful applicants would join an internationally recognized research centre (www.clarity-centre.org) and a very active research group in multimedia content analysis, indexing and search (www.cdvp.dcu.ie) and will have the opportunity to work a number or world-class collaborating research groups and industry partners. Successful applicants will also have the opportunity to travel to international summer schools, workshops and conferences.
