PhD studentships in NanoPhotonics

Job Description : The NanoPhotonics Research Group at University College Dublin has several exciting, multi-disciplinary opportunities available for highly motivated graduates to join. The group has expertise in Fluorescence and Raman spectroscopy, Single molecule and nanoparticle imaging, Atomic force microscopy, semiconductor quantum dot nanomaterials and scanning tunneling microscopy.

Position 1: A background in physics or chemistry with a strong interest in biophysics and microscopy is desirable. The PhD project is to study hybrid nanomaterials constructed from DNA and quantum dot nanomaterials and to image these materials and to study their optical properties and processes. The project provides an opportunity for the successful candidate to engage in highly multidisciplinary research using using single molecule optical microscopy, scanning probe microscopy methods and DNA handling methodologies.

Position 2: A background in physics or chemistry with a strong interest in nanomaterials and microscopy is desirable. The PhD project is to study engineered plasmon active supports for imaging biomaterials. The project centers on applying a range of optical methods to study the interaction of biosystems and plasmon active surface. The project provides an opportunity for the successful candidate to engage in highly multidisciplinary research using using single molecule optical microscopy, vibration spectroscopy methods and plasmon active materials.

University College Dublin is the largest university in Ireland situated 2 miles from the city centre, whose origin dates back to 1854. There are over 22,000 students including over 3,200 international students from more than 110 countries.
