The Penn Humanities Forum announces a Graduate Research Assistantship for the 2008–09 academic year for University of Pennsylvania dissertation-level (ABD) students in the humanities whose thesis pertains to Change, the Forum’s research topic for 2008–09.
The Penn Humanities Forum Graduate Research Assistantship provides full support for the 2008–09 academic year (tuition plus a stipend of $18,000), and carries with it membership in the Forum’s weekly Faculty Mellon Research Seminar. Applicants may not be holding other positions (e.g., teaching) and must be in good academic and financial standing with the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences.
The position requires 15–20 hours per week of service in a variety of functions:
1. as student leader of the Graduate Humanities Forum, working in association with the GHF Faculty Advisor to organize GHF seminars and special colloquia;
2. as chair and coordinator of the annual GHF spring conference, planning, organizing, and presiding over the event;
3. as coordinator of the Mentorship Program for the Undergraduate Humanities Forum, working with GHF members and the UHF Faculty Advisor to match GHF mentors with UHF Fellows carrying out research projects;
4. as assistant to the PHF staff, Jennifer Conway and Sara Varney, in carrying out the general business of the Forum (requires some evenings and, rarely, weekend work).
The RAship is awarded competitively. Finalists are interviewed on campus in March/April as part of the selection process.
