Position opening: Graduate Assistant, Journalism & Mass Communication Educator

Department: Journalism and Mass Communication

Term of appointment: One-year assignment, renewable for a fourth semester (Fall 2009), beginning with the Fall 2008 semester. Assignment is 12 months, August 2008 to August 2009. Fall semester starts Sept. 2, 2008.

Salary: At least $9,600 ($3,200 per semester) annual stipend plus fully paid tuition and fees.

Requirements: Undergraduate degree in journalism, mass communication, media studies, or similar degree with professional and/or student experience in print media. Excellent copyediting and proofreading skills. (Preferred: Aptitude for, and strong interest in, teaching and/or research in journalism/mass communication.) Applicants for this assistantship must already have been admitted into the M.A. program and must commit to enroll in a minimum of nine (9) credits per semester. The application processes for the graduate program and graduate assistantships are different and separate.

Primary duties: To serve as the Editorial Assistant to the Editor of an international, quarterly scholarly journal published by the Association for Education in Journalism & Mass Communication (AEJMC) and currently headquartered at Point Park University. Assist the journal’s Editor in all aspects of the journal’s operations, including potentially communicating with Editorial Advisory Board members and/or article and essay authors. This Graduate Assistant might also teach undergraduate courses for additional compensation. Assistant will work 20 hours per week except during vacations and holidays.
