Position/Prof. Marine Biology at the Free University of Brussels-Belgium
The Faculty of Sciences and Bio-engineering sciences, and in particular
the Department of Biology of the “Vrije Universiteit Brussel”, Brussels,
Belgium, has a vacancy for a full-time
PROFESSOR OF MARINE BIOLOGY
Starting date : 01/10/2009
Duration – The initial appointment is for three years, but includes the
possibility of promotion to a permanent professorial position.
Position description – We are inviting applications of outstanding
scientists in the field of Marine Biology, but welcome a broad array of
research directions and techniques in this domain. Scientists working at
disciplinary interfaces and/or using integrative approaches are
especially encouraged to apply. Applicants are expected to develop a
high-impact research program and to participate in undergraduate,
graduate, and postdoctoral education and training.
Research – Applicants should have a strong research record and are
expected to be involved in national and international networks. He/she
is team oriented and has the capability of defining strategies and
providing innovative leadership. Research should be complementary with
global expertise and should seek an integrative approach (research
across levels of biological organization). The successful candidate will
be encouraged to interact with various departments.
Teaching – The successful candidate will become Director of the Master
program Ecological Marine Management (www.ecomama.be) and is expected to
provide new impulses to this successful international and
interuniversity program. The candidate will participate in a number of
specialized undergraduate courses based on his/her research expertise.
He/she will also be co-responsible for general courses in animal biology
or ecology within the Bachelor program.
Requirements – A completed Ph.D. in a relevant field is required and
postdoctoral experience is preferred. The candidate has excellent
teaching skills and is able to motivate students. The candidate has
excellent knowledge of English and Dutch, or a willingness to learn
Dutch.
