As the leading research center in Europe in the field of environmental health (the connecting discipline between biomedicine and environmental research), scientists in the Helmholtz Center Munich analyse fundamental processes of disease development, and the damage to, as well as the defence and compensatory mechanisms of, organisms.

The Helmholtz Center Munich is a national research center of the Federal Government and the State of Bavaria with its headquarters in Neuherberg to the north of Munich, and is a member of the Helmholtz Association, the largest public research organisation in Germany.

The Institute of Groundwater Ecology is investigating an environmental system with great relevance for human health. The Molecular Ecology Group of the Institute is searching for a

Post Doctoral Fellow - Molecular Microbial Ecologist (159/2008)

Job Description
- Work on environmental populations of anaerobic contaminant degraders in groundwater
- Unravelling of the controlls of population assembly and activity
- Development of new approaches and tools to characterize degrader populations and to identify microbial key-players.

Your Qualifications
- An excellent PhD. in microbiology, molecular ecology or equivalent
- Experience with advanced nucleic acid-based molecular ecology approaches such as the use of stable isotope labelling and microarrays.
- You are highly motivated and self-guided, but at the same time enjoy working with others, to advise students and to integrate into a team
- You enjoy developing ideas for innovative analytical approaches
