Post-Doctoral Fellowship Studying Embryonic Stem Cells to Understand Pluripotency and Cellular Reprogramming (Heidelberg, Germany)
Pluripotent embryonic stem (ES) cells are unique tools for studying mammalian development and differentiation in the Petri dish. Global gene expression analysis has started to reveal the transcriptional network that directs the gene expression signature underlying the pluripotent state. Similarly, a protein network is emerging essential for maintenance of pluripotency. Sall4 is a transcriptional regulator positioned in the center of this protein network being essential for the development of cell lineages from the inner cell mass (Elling et al. 2006, PNAS). Using a combination of biochemical and genetic methods we have purified the Sall protein complex from ES cells. We are now in the process to characterize novel interacting proteins in vitro and in vivo. For this project we preferably seek a scientist with a strong background in stem cell biology.
Qualified candidates will have (or be about to obtain) a Ph.D. degree. A strong background in molecular and stem cell biology is required. Experience with gene chip array expression analysis would be an additional plus. Skills in mouse genetics/histology would be favorable.
An initial contract of 1 year will be offered to the successful candidate. This can be renewed, depending on the circumstances at the time of review.
