Activities include internationally recognized oceanographic and marine biological research conducted by resident and visiting scientists, and university level courses on topics ranging from marine pollution to biogeochemical cycles in the Sargasso Sea.
A post-doctoral position is available at the Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences starting in the summer of 2008. This position is part of an NSF-funded project to study taxon-specific biogeochemistry using a newly developed method combining stable isotopes and flow cytometric sorting. The ultimate goal is use this method to study taxon-specific growth rates in a wide variety of oceanographic regimes, investigate competition between phytoplankton groups for inorganic and organic nitrogen and carbon sources, and quantify physiological role of autotrophs in global biogeochemical cycles.

The ideal candidate should have a proven research and publication record, and experience in experimental design, the use of high speed cell sorters and data analysis. Furthermore, the successful candidate will be the lead scientist for this research and must be willing to participate in research cruises in a range of environments from the sub-arctic to the sub-tropical. This appointment is a fixed-term position (up to 2 years). Review of applicants will commence immediately and continue as applications are received until the position is filled.
