Post-doctoral Scholarship in Applied Spintronics and Magnetoelectronics in Sweden
Post-doctoral Scholarship in Applied Spintronics and Magnetoelectronics: Post-doctoral Scholarship in Applied Spintronics and Magnetoelectronics at the Royal Institute of Technology, School of Information and Communication Technology, Stockholm, Sweden.
KTH is the largest technical university in Sweden. Education and research cover a broad spectrum within natural sciences and engineering, as well as architecture, industrial engi-neering and management, urban planning, work science and environmental engineering. There are circa 12.000 full-year undergraduate students, 1.400 postgraduate students and 3.100 employees.
The school of Information and Communication Technology, ICT, conducts research and education in the areas Material Physics, Electronics, and Information Technology. We work with the scientific and mathematical foundation, with the technical infrastructure as well as with systems and services. Through our collaboration with Stockholm University we broaden the perspective to the interaction between technology and humans. We have an internationally competitive profile in research in nano electronics, photonics, electronic and computer systems, software technology and communication as well as Systems sciences and software construction technologies. The collaboration with the surrounding companies and society takes place e.g. in Kista Science City. We offer a broad spectrum of education programs, for the Swedish titles “civilingenjör” and “högskoleingenjör”, as well as candidate programs. We also offer a number of master programs entirely taught in English for advanced undergraduate studies with a separate, highly competitive recruitment from a predominantly international student base.
Background
The Laboratory of Material Physics within the Department of Microelectronics and Applied Physics announces one or more postdoctoral scholarships in the field of Applied Spintronics and Magnetoelectronics.
Applied Spintronics can be divided into three main areas: magnetic tunnel junctions for use in e.g. MRAM, RF devices based on coherent spin precession, and magnetic semiconductors. All three areas are actively pursued in the group.
Advisor to the postdoc is Dr. Johan Åkerman who spent four years as a Senior Staff Scientist in the MRAM group at Freescale Semiconductor and was responsible for the long-term reli-ability of the MRAM technology. In 2005 he was awarded an Individual Grant for the Ad-vancement of Research Leaders by the Foundation for Strategic Research to set up his own research group at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm, Sweden. His re-search is well funded and his group aims to become a centre for Applied Spintronics.
Qualifications
The candidates are expected to have a Ph.D. in Magnetism, Magnetoelectronics, or related area and be experienced in deposition of magnetic and dielectric thin films and the characterization of their structural and functional properties. Detailed knowledge and experience of FePt thin film deposition and characterization is considered a plus. Good command of English is required. The candidates will also be evaluated on number of high impact publications, and conference presentations, relevant to the research field. Finally, personal drive, curiosity, critical thinking and ability to do research together with the other group members will be evaluated.
The scholarship is for one year with possibility of extension. Expected starting date is 2008-11-01 or later.
To address its varied work, KTH aims to employ a diversity of talent and thus welcomes applicants who will add to the variety of the University, especially as concerns its gender structure.
