As the leading research center in Europe in the field of environmental health (the connecting discipline between biomedicine and environmental research), scientists in the Helmholtz Center Munich analyse fundamental processes of disease development, and the damage to, as well as the defence and compensatory mechanisms of, organisms.

The Helmholtz Center Munich is a national research center of the Federal Government and the State of Bavaria with its headquarters in Neuherberg to the north of Munich, and is a member of the Helmholtz Association, the largest public research organisation in Germany.

The overall goal of the Institute for Biological and Medical imaging with its director Prof. Dr. V. Ntziachristos is to develop non-invasive, higly innovative imaging technologies which mean an immense improvement of existing methods for medical diagnosis and therapy control.

Starting from 1 October 2008 we offer a position for a

scientist / post doc fellow for Microwave and MR Imaging (140/2008)

Job Description
As we have several ongoing projects the work may focus on one or more of the following - depending on the candidate´s background:
- Development of novel state-of-the-art RF imaging hardware
- Theroretical and numerical computation developments to support tomography and quantitative data analysis
- Hand-on experimental work involving imaging of small animals in-vivo

Your Qualifications
Strong background in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related fields with emphasis in numerical computational methods (FDTD, FEM)
- Understanding and mathematical modeling of radiofrequency wave propagation in tissues
- Knowledge and practical experience in electromagnetic fields, RF engineering and control hardware
- Inversion problems and solution of linear and non-linear systems of equations
- Excellent analytical and strong programming skills and experience with Matlab, Labview, etc.
- Good command of English
