Postdoc in Experimental Characterisation of Core Materials and Sandwich Structures,Aalborg University,Denmark
At the Faculties of Engineering, Science and Medicine, Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering, a position as Postdoc in Experimental Characterisation of Core Materials and Sandwich Structures (position no. P29034) is open for appointment from 1.10.2010.
Job description:
The position is for appointment from 1st October 2010 or soon thereafter. The position is available for a period of 2 years.
Research areas will be within experimental characterisation of foam materials and related sandwich structures. This will include experimental investigation of stiffness, strength, fatigue and toughness of core materials, experimental characterisation of core/face interface properties, “in situ” failure modes and damage tolerance of sandwich structures as well as investigation of through-the-thickness reinforcement of core materials and sandwich structures. A limited amount of Finite Element modelling related to buckling and delamination problems will be included in the research. Successful applicants must document extensive records in experimental investigations and validation of mechanical performance of materials and structural components.
The position is affiliated with a large-scale integrated project “NanCore” under European Union 7th Framework Programme. The NanCore project runs until 30th November 2012 in collaboration with 12 academic and industrial partners from 6 European countries. The overall objective of the NanCore project is to design novel cost-effective microcellular nanocomposite foam, with mechanical properties comparable to or better than Balsa wood and PVC foam, allowing for a substitution of these as core materials for lightweight composite sandwich structures. The candidate will be involved in the scientific/technological tasks related to the structural and mechanical analysis of new materials.
Department of Mechanical Sciences focuses its activities on the achievement of excellence in research and education in Engineering Design of “Mechanical Systems” and “Industrial Products”. To achieve this objective, the Department has established three principal competence groups with the following key areas:
• Computer-Aided Engineering Design and Product Development
• Materials Science and Engineering
• Mechanics and Design of Structures
Qualification requirements:
Limited teaching within the area can be expected, but also in other study programmes at the University.
Appointment to Postdoc presupposes scientific qualifications at PhD–level or similar scientific qualifications. The research potential of each applicant will be emphasized in the overall assessment. Appointment to Postdoc cannot exceed a period of four years in total at Aalborg University (appointment at Assistant Professor level cannot exceed a period of eight years in total in Denmark, however max. six years at Assistant Professor level at the same institution).
The Ministry of Finance Circular concerning the job structure for academic staff at universities and the guidelines for applicants regarding application and procedure can be seen on:
The application must contain the following:
• A motivated text wherein the reasons for applying, qualifications in relation to the position, and intentions and visions for the position are stated.
• A current curriculum vitae
• Education (copies of documentation for degrees obtained)
• Scientific qualifications. A complete list of publications must be attached with an indication of the works the applicant wishes to be considered as well as 3 copies of each of these works.
• Dissemination qualifications, including participation on committees or boards, participation in organizations and the like.
• Additional qualifications in relation to the position.
• References/recommendations
• Personal data
An assessment committee will assess all candidates.
Appointment and salary acc. to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of professional Associations (AC) on Academics in the State.
