Within this project, applications are invited for a three year BMBF funded postdoctoral position.

The main task of the appointee will be the establishment of a molecular diagnostic setup to investigate the huge diversity of the bacterial oral microflora in humans using DNA microarray technology. The aim of the project is a better understanding of the relationship between the oral microflora and the development of periodontal disease. The project will be conducted in close collaboration with the Department of Functional Genomics providing state of the art technological facilities.

We are seeking a talented and motivated postdoctoral researcher who can work independently. Candidates should have excellent qualification in molecular biology. Experience in microbiology and DNA array technology would be advantageous.

The University and Hanseatic City of Greifswald is located near the bay of Greifswald, which is part of the Baltic Sea between the islands of Rügen and Usedom and offers great recreational possibilities.

Please direct applications (cover letter, CV, publication list) and at least two letters of reference to

There is growing concern about multidrug ressistance in Acientobacter baumannii in hospital settings. Rapid evaluation of epidemics by molecular methods like genotyping and understand the underlying cause is most important to address the issue immediately. My research was aimed at to identify the epidemic by simple yet reliable typing method and to know the drug resistance factors.
Integron is a vehicle for antibiotic resistance gene dispersion. Integron will be a tool to know the epidemiology and its role in ecophysiology in human health. Since there is again high concern regarding antibiotics resistant and commensal microflora in- and outside human body there are some issues that are barely touched. (1) One of them is the interrelationships between integron bearing and integron non-bearing commensal flora and pathogenic flora and to know how and what impact of these integron bearing flora has over the other commensal or pathogenic microflora and 2) To know the integron types, utilization of integron promoter in synthetic expression vector for hetrologous expression (3) to control integron bearing bacteria by silencing integrase promoters with RNAi technology or other techniques foor dissemination mechanisms of antibiotics or drug resistance genes inside human body and outside in microbial community, 4) in human ecophysiology, 5) The molecular epidemiological and ecophysiological interrelationships between integron bearing (antibiotics resistance gene bearing flora ) and other integron non-bearing human microflora like gut microflora or intestinal microflora to address their impact in human behavior, physiology and metabolism, (5) Comparing microflora from vast geographic distances and from pristine ecosystems and other geographic and demography with heavy antibiotics uses to trace the evolutionary history and know the intriguing causes of resistance evolution.

  19. I am a medical research scientist in Ghana. I had my MPil Degree in Microbiology from the University of Ghana. My Research study was in viral paediatric diarrhoea (Rotavirus). I wish to expand this study to the PhD level through the initiation of hospital-based surveillance in Ghana, a developing country where Rotavirus vaccine is currently undergoing a trial. This will provide baseline data for the evaluation of future rotavirus vaccine in Africa and help in the advocacy for the introduction of future rotavirus vaccine in the Expanded Programme on Imminization in African counties. I would be grateful if you could assist me get a scholarship to enable me carry out this important research.
