offers a
POST-DOC POSITION
Within the Excellence Cluster “INFLAMMATION AT INTERFACES”
Title of the project: Chemical and biological characterization of peptidoglycan and part structures as NOD agonists
Peptidoglycan (PG) is a structural cell-wall component of Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria known to interact with the innate immune system of vertebrates. PG shows significant biosynthetic turnover and represents pathogen-associated patterns (PAMPs). It has gained recent attention since it is able to stimulate the intracellular Nod receptors (Nod 1 and Nod2) which have been implicated in programmed cell death and immune response.
The present project aims at a structural characterization of PG as PAMP in the context with pathogen related receptors (PRR, Nods). The project is part of the Integrated Research Area G (IRN Nod-like receptors). A close methodological and scientific collaboration with groups of the research area as well as within the whole cluster is essential.
The position requires skills in analytical structural biochemistry (HPLC, MS, NMR), molecular biology, biochemistry and immunology. Applicants must held a Ph.D. degree in chemistry, biochemistry, molecular life sciences, or biology. It is expected that he or she is ambitious and motivated to work in this competitive field of biomedical research.
The position is immediately available for 3 years and may be extended for another 2 years. We offer an international, diverse and highly stimulating scientific environment within the excellence cluster “inflammation at interfaces” (I@I) located at the Research Center Borstel, the universities of Kiel and Lübeck. The position will be paid for regular post-doc salary (TVöD 14) and depends on the individual qualifications. The Research Center Borstel can provide housing on the campus.
The Research Center Borstel supports the employment of disabled persons. Persons with disabilities will, with appropriate qualifications and aptitudes, be employed preferentially.
