The successful applicant is expected to have:
– Doctoral degree in agronomy, biology, genetics, (bio-)statistics or related disciplines
– Advanced knowledge of plant breeding, molecular biology, and statistics
– Experience with next-generation sequencing and genotyping technologies
– Strong team player and communication skills, experience in supervising students or PhDs
– Ability to publish the results of scientific research in scientific journals
For PhD positions:
The successful applicants are expected to have:
– Diploma or Master’s degree in agronomy, biology or related disciplines
– Background in plant breeding / genetics and statistics is advantageous
– Interest in the analysis of large phenotypic and genotypic data sets
– Interest in bioinformatics and statistical software including programming with R

Scholarship Description: Genome-based breeding strategies play an important role in increasing the selection efficiency and accelerating breeding processes of crops. To pave the way for genome-based breeding in rye (Secale cereale L.) the project aims are i) to develop a high-density genotyping SNP array and target-specific gene- based markers, ii) to characterize the diversity patterns in rye breeding pools using population genetic methods, iii) to evaluate the potential of genomic selection for improving yield and yield stability, and iv) to identify and validate genomic regions involved in frost tolerance as well as yield- and quality-related traits in hybrid rye. The project is called RYE-SELECT and is funded by the BMBF (Federal Ministry of Education and Research).
