Job Description: This document sets out the details for the Foundation’s 2011-2012 Postdoctoral Fellowship.
Eligibility: The Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowship is open to Australian citizens or permanent residents, for a project at an Australian research institution.Applicants must have had not less than five years and nor more than ten years post-PhD research experience (excluding time out for, for example, family reasons). The research project will be in hypertension or a related field in basic,clinical or public health areas.
Duration:The Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowship is for a period of two years.
Starting Date: The successful applicant is required to advise the Trustees when he/she will take up the Fellowship. This date must be within six months of 1 January 2011.
Payment:Payment is made to the employing institution. The Trustees must be advised of and approve any intended move to another employing institution by the Fellowship holder during the duration of the Fellowship. Payment is made to the employing institution at an amount to cover salary, salary support costs and approximately $10,000 per annum research support. In
2011 the amount paid to the employing institution will be $105,000. This amount is based on a salary of around $70,000 per annum, 34.5% on-costs and a further $10,000 for research support. The actual salary level to be paid will depend on the scale used at the employing institution.
Qualifications: The Fellowship is for a qualified researcher (PhD, MD or equivalent) whowishes to establish a research project with an established group at an Australianinstitute (hospital, university department or research institute). The Fellowship will be awarded to an applicant with interests in hypertension research and for work in areas relevant to the understanding of the causes, prevention, treatment or effects of hypertension, in biomedical, clinical or public health research.

Reports and Acknowledgments: The successful applicant will be required to provide a report to the Trustees at
the end of their first year and at the completion of their Fellowship. The supportof the Foundation for High Blood Pressure Research is to be acknowledged inall publications arising from the research project supported by the fellowship.

Membership subscriptions to the High Blood Pressure Research Council ofAustralia will be paid for the duration of the Fellowship and as such, it isexpected that the successful applicant will participate in the Annual ScientificMeeting of the HBPRC.
Application Procedures
The application is to consist of the following sections:
1. Curriculum vitae, including:
a. Name, address, date of birth;
b. Education details (undergraduate, postgraduate);
c. Previous postdoctoral experience;
d. List of publications, differentiated into peer-reviewed and others. Copies
of publications are not required;
e. Impact factors and citations.
2. An outline of the research plan to be followed (maximum of two A4 pages).
3. Letter from the Head of the proposed host institution (hospital, university
department or research institute) indicating that he/she is willing to accept the
applicant.
An original and eight copies of the entire application are to be provided.
