Postdoctoral Fellowship in Computational Biolgoy / Bioinformatics

Description : A postdoctoral Research/Visiting Fellowship in Computational Biology / Bioinformatics is available in Raja Jothi’s laboratory at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS), National Institutes of Health (NIH). Dr. Jothi’s lab is interested in elucidating the dynamics of genes/proteins in protein-protein interaction and gene regulatory networks and their role in systems behavior, and development and application of genomics and bioinformatics tools to identify tissue specific gene regulatory elements such as enhancers, silencers, and insulators by integrating heterogeneous genome-scale data. Successful candidates will undertake several exciting new projects in the general areas of Computational Biology, Systems Biology, and Gene/Protein Networks with particular emphasis on Human, Mouse, Fly, and Yeast genomes. He/She will employ computational approaches to integrate and analyze genome-wide biological datasets, and will work closely with experimental biologists, both within and outside of NIH, who are interested in a variety of genetic and genomic studies using gene expression microarrays, and next-generation massively parallel sequencing technologies such as ChIP-Seq. QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates should have obtained a PhD degree in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics or a related discipline. Programming skills and experience in the application of computational methods to genomic data are highly desirable. Excellent communications skills and the ability to work on a variety of projects are essential. Highly motivated candidates with excellent programming skills but no prior research experiences in analyzing biological data, who are interested in making a career switch to the Computational Biology/Bioinformatics field are also encouraged to apply. LOCATION: NIEHS main campus in the Research Triangle Park (RTP), North Carolina. The RTP is the largest research park in US located between Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill, and is within ~12 miles from Duke University, University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, and North Carolina State University. SALARY/BENEFITS: Successful candidates will be offered competitive stipend/salary (at least $47,000 per year) commensurate with number of years of postdoctoral experience and accomplishments. Benefits package will include health insurance, and travel support for one meeting each year. A 401K plan with matching contributions will be offered to those hired as Research Fellows.
