Postdoctoral Scholarship on Modeling Photo-induced Phase Transformations at Surfaces at London Global University,UK

Job Description: A postdoctoral position is available in the group of Prof Alexander Shluger at University College London to work on developing the mechanisms of photo-induced phase transformations at surfaces induced by femtosecond laser pulses. The main purpose of this project is to develop new methodologies for modelling experiments on STM and femtosecond electron diffraction and to develop mechanisms of photo-induced structural changes at surfaces.

The post is funded by the Osaka University for 18 months in the first instance and the person will be employed by the Osaka University, but will be working at UCL with regular trips to Japan. The first stage of the study will involve modelling defect aggregates at the graphite surface, modelling STM images of these aggregates and developing theory of femtosecond electron diffraction measurements in conjunction with experiments carried out in Osaka. The second stage will involve developing mechanism of photo-induced structural changes at graphite and other surfaces. The project can start from October and can be extended for up to 4 years.
