2 years Postdoctoral Position in Ecology at the Department of Ecology and Environmental Science, Umeå University, Sweden.  The aim of this research is to identify and investigate general structuring mechanisms and nutrient pathways in aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems.

This will be done within the framework of ecological stoichiometry theory, which is defined as the balance of multiple chemical substances in ecological interactions and explicitly considers the combined dynamics of key elements such as carbon (C), nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P).

This project will further identify how environmental gradients affect these nutrient pathways in aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems. Sweden is particularly well suited to explore these questions due its geographic size (spanning more than 13 degrees of latitude), its gradient in land-use intensities and a large amount of data available from national monitoring programs.

Eligibility:

To qualify for the position you should have a PhD degree in ecology or equivalent, in the first case not more than 3 years old. Knowledge of mathematical modelling, ecological stoichiometry (terrestrial or aquatic) and/or soil biogeochemistry is desirable. From the successful candidate, we expect a documented capability of autonomous scientific research work and skills in writing scientific publications in English.

International applicants are encouraged to apply. The candidate will be appointed as a postdoc, be based at the Department of Ecology and Environmental Science in Umeå, and will receive a standard postdoc salary.
