Institute of Plant Biology
University of Zurich, Switzerland
Postdoctoral fellow
Starting Date:
January 1st, 2010 or later
Duration:
2 years, possibility to extend
Salary:
According to the guidelines of the Swiss National ScienceFoundation and the University of Zurich, starting at CHF 84’371.–
Project description:
We have recently identified the durable fungal disease resistance gene Lr34 in wheat (Krattinger et al. 2009, Science 323, 1360). Lr34 encodes an ABC transporter of the PDR family. The successful candidate will be responsible for a project to study the biochemical function of this protein (transport studies in heterologous systems, identification of transported molecules), as well as on genetic and molecular approaches to understand Lr34 function.
Requirements:
PhD in molecular biology or biochemistry. A strong experimental background both in molecular genetics and biochemistry is essential, previous work on transport processes is an advantage. Demonstrated ability to successfully complete projects.
Application:
Applications should include a curriculum vitae, list of publications, and names and phone numbers of three references.

Dear Prof. Beat KellerInstitute,
My thesis topic is “metabolic physiological and biochemical studies of in vitro tissue system of Withania somnifera”. I worked on the abiotic stress to the plant, and tried to analyse that how plants cop-up with the unfavourable conditions like salt stress etc. in this study i analysed many biochemical analysis relevant to my focused objective, and now i am planing the experiments for its molecular characterisation for stress related genes.
Sir/ma’m i am very keen to do the work in plant stress and resistance/tolerance area. As i am preparing my doctral thesis and it is likely to be submitted in 3-4 months.and i need fellowship for working further in the plant science area. I am highly interested in yours advertised position. Please tell me i am eligible for this position or not.and if not then please let me know tht when should i further contact to you.
thanking you.
yours sincerely,
